The Tool Stall, South Shields Market

"The inspiration for this painting came from one of the second hand tool stalls on South Shields marketplace.  I noticed that the older generation handled the hand tools with what seemed a reverence, as if they were looking at an old friend or they had been skilled tradesmen and were familiar with un-electrified drills, saws and wood planes that had been carefully looked after by their former owners."
